I am Major Prakash Patil, an officer retired from The Indian Army. I am a versatile man and a true generalist, par excellence.

Be assured, I am eminently capable of teaching spoken English without grammar, without spellings and without stress, in just 10 to 12 weeks.

At the age of 75, I am, full of dynamism, verve and Josh. I want to create “The synergy between wisdom of the old, and energy of the young.”

About me while in the Army:

For me, the army has been one of the greatest universities in the world. Army trains its men with the long term goal of man making, and teaching them art and science of living.

While in the army, I did my graduation, in both, humanities and sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi.

I taught telecom Engineering at MCEME (Military College of Electronics & Telecom Engg), Secunderabad.

I did my MBA too, while seving in the Army.

I did the PG diploma from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) Delhi, the most prestigious institute in Asia.

About me after my retirement:

I retired from the army, in 1996. As in the army, as of now, I have been constantly striving for excellence and higher goals in many diverse fields.

I am a top notch motivational speaker. I have delivered about 600 lectures in various schools and colleges of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa.

I taught HRM, logistics and strategic mamangement in MBA colleges.

I successfully ran two reputed English medium schools for 16 years, for kids of middle class families, at very affordable fees.

I produced, wrote and also played a main character role in an award winning Marathi feature film, ध्यास (The Quest). Besides being nominated among three best films of the year, the film also bagged Times of India’s prestigious म. टा. सन्मान.

At the ripe age of 75th year, I am retired, but not tired. In fact, I am full of verve, vitality and enthusiasm.

Until now, I followed a traditional ‘chalk and board’ method to share my knowledge. Now, I want to share it online, at a wider and bigger scale, through “click and connect’ method.

Why people can’t speak English:

Schools teach English to the brain, eyes and fingers, but they neglect to teach English to tongues and vocal cords.

Sequences of words in Marathi and English sentences are quite different. e.g.

“मी गावाला जात आहे” , In Marathi, becomes “मी आहे जात ला गावा” in English.

A person gets barely 2 to 3 seconds to respond while talking. Even an English language teacher who speaks for 45 minutes in a class room, fails to talk confidently in a casual conversation.

Last are, tongue-tied-ness, shyness and fear of criticism.

GANDMA’S METHOD:

MY UNIQUE AND HAPPY WAY TO SPEAK ENGLISH

I have been teaching spoken English, through ‘Grandma’s Method’, a unique way of teaching spoken English.

I ran this 10 weeks course of mine, for Engineers, doctors, lawyers, school boys and girls and even for housewives. I call it ‘Grandma's method’.

Its main features are:

a. I teach spoken English, the same way as a grandmother teaches her grandchild to speak a language effortlessly and joyfully.

b. Grandma does not teach her grandchild to read and write. She just teaches him/her to speak.

C. For the grandma, grammar too is not necessary to speak.

A person needs barely 200 to 250 words to speak a language proficiently. About 50 verbs, 100 nouns, 12 to 15 each of pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, adjectives, adverbs, and 5-6 exclamatories! That’s all.

With such a small word bank, he actually starts speaking fluent English.

d. The grandma gives maximum emphasis to the daily, regular, loud repetitions, to give practice to her grandchild’s tongue and vocal cords. The Granma’s syllabus is very limited.

e. I add to grandma’s method, simple stories and fables, songs, rhymes, conversation pieces, practices in sub groups. अंताक्षरी, lecturettes and many other interesting things.
